Whey Protein Isolate or WPI is a very fast-digesting dairy protein that consists of at least 90% protein, with almost no carbohydrates or fats. WPI is also 99% lactose-free, making it suitable for most people who are lactose intolerant.
The nutritional and pricing differences between WPI and WPC result from a secondary step in the manufacturing process. During production, WPC is microfiltered once, while WPI is filtered a second time. This second filtration removes more fat and carbohydrate from the original product, producing a more refined protein. This process means that WPI is a purer whey protein than WPC.
